Sermon Guide
Genesis 1:26-31 • April 19, 2026
Sermon Outline
BIG IDEA
God defines our design, our role, and our gender; and only in Him do we understand who we are.
OUTLINE
God reveals…
Our design in His image (26a)
Our role in His world (26b)
Out gender by His creation (27-31)
CALL TO RESPOND
Reject false views of humanity.
Receive your identity from God.
Reorder your life under His design.
Reflect His image with clarity and conviction.
Group Discussion
Before coming to group, take time to consider where your understanding of identity has been shaped more by culture than Scripture (i.e. success, gender, purpose, happiness, autonomy, etc.). Make a list. Come prepared to discuss.
What does it practically mean that you are made in the image of God? How should that shape the way you view yourself and others?
How does the cultural mandate (to rule, order, and define creation) show up in everyday life (work, home, church)?
Why is it significant that God created “male and female”? How does this truth confront modern views of gender?
DIRECT APPLICATION
Are you living from your God-given identity, or are you letting culture define who you are?
a. If grounded, share what helps you stay rooted in God’s design.
b. If drifting, identify where you’ve believed false ideas about yourself or others.
c. As a group, commit to reminding one another of God’s truth about identity.Where are you resisting God’s design in your life (role, purpose, gender, authority)? What practical step will you take this week to align your thinking with God’s design rather than humanism?
